The Burger: Was It Slap-Yo-Mama Good?

It was.

Fortunately neither of our mothers were nearby at the time.

Brian had a regular burger (NO CHEESE!) with bacon and onions on a sesame toasted bun with onion rings. And a chocolate milkshake.

I had a turkey burger with cheddar, guacamole and an onion ring on a whole wheat bun with fresh made sweet potato chips. And some of Brian's milkshake.

We went back today.

In fact, we got there 10 minutes before they opened at noon and there was a line out the door already! They told everybody to sit down and get drinks because they weren't ready yet. Apparently a lot of fathers like slap-yo-mama good burgers. It's probably not a good place to go on mother's day.

By the way, the name of the place is Twisted Root Burger. And their slogan is:

TWISTED ROOT BURGER: IT'S SOFA KING GOOD!

(That's right - say it out loud.)


So when you place your order and pay they give you a little ticket stub that has a name on it. For example, ours said "MINI-ME". So we go sit down to wait for our order and then the guy behind the counter gets on his microphone and annouces "MINI-ME! You're order is ready!". My personal favorites were Polly Pocket and Papa Smurf. (Halle Berry was a little disappointing.)

Dallas: Week 2

Pancake Saturday!

A new tradition has been started on the Drowsy Tour. Well, it's an old tradition for Adam, one of our carpenters who initiated this, but it's new to us!

PANCAKE SATURDAYS!

Adam travels with a pancake griddle in roadbox and every Saturday he gets to the theatre early and grills up pancakes and sausages for anyone who wants! Today was the 1st Pancake Saturday and it was the best Saturday EVER!

Opening in Dallas

Opening night in Dallas was FANTASTIC!

It started with Michael Jenkins, the presenter of our show here, coming to our meeting we always have before the show, to say hello to everyone and and to offer everyone in the company free tickets to 6 Flags! We had great audiences and then went to a fabulous opening night party on the top of the Mayfair building at the home of 2 of the donors to the theatre. The food was great, the people were great, and the roof patio with city-views was spectacular!

Also, Brian and I met our first blog fan! (No offense to you friends and family - you read this because you love us!) A special hello and thank you to Doug Thompson, who works with Dallas Summer Musicals, who is a fan of our blog! He came over to us at the party and said "You must be Beth and Brian! I love the blog! Congratulations on your engagement!" Now Brian and I are thinking, "huh?! Did he say blog? No one reads our blog except our parents!" Doug went on to explain that he was surfing the internet one day and came across our blog. He began keeping up with the blog since he knew Drowsy was coming to Dallas. (Don't worry - I promise not to associate Dallas with any giant metallic armadillos!)

But so far we've had a great experience in Dallas!
(Oh, except for the construction at the hotel.... but we won't go into that!)

Monday night, after we travelled to Dallas, a bunch of us went to a Texas Rangers game! A couple of the guys in the cast always try to get to any baseball games they can in our different cities and so Denny had asked the theatre if they had any connections for tickets and they set us up in this awesome Club Suite!

They happened to be playing Cleveland... GO INDIANS!

However, while I was routing for Cleveland along with Cliff, one of the actors who is from Cleveland, I won a free taco when the Rangers hit a home run in the 4th inning!

Houston Catch-up

So it's been a little while, but I thought I would catch everyone up on our 2nd week in Houston.

Monday, for our day off, Brian and I got up relatively early and drove south to Galveston Island. We decided to stay the night on Monday so we booked a room at the Hilton right on the Gulf. When we got there our room wasn't ready yet so we changed, covered ourselves in suntan lotion and headed across the street to the beach. It was a beautiful day and the water down there is like bathwater! After a couple of hours there we needed a break so we walked back across the street to our hotel and went for a swim in the pool. The crazy thing about this pool is that it has a bar - IN THE POOL!

So we both ended up getting REALLY sunburned and looking like lobsters for about a week, but it was lots of fun and totally worth it! We went out to dinner at this really delicious mexican restuarant called SALSA! and then played some mini-golf and drove back to Houston Tuesday morning.



On Thursday Denny, Georgia, Brian & I went to lunch at the Aquarium - it's a restaurant at their small aquarium downtown with a giant fish tank in the middle of the dining area with sharks and tropical fish and all kinds of fun stuff to watch swim - while you're eating their brothers and sisters as it's a mostly seafood menu.

After lunch Denny and Brian went off to do work and Georgia and I went through the aquarium exhibits. Strangely enough, the best part of the whole thing was the white bengal tiger at the end!! Who puts a tiger in an aquarium?! It was pretty cool though. Here I am with the fake photo-op bengal tiger...


And Georgia LOVES ferris wheels of all kinds, so we went on the ferris wheel...




That night, the girls rebuttled the Indiana Jones midnight movie with a midnight showing of Sex & The City. Lots of fun!


(And yes, those are cosmopolitans in the hotel coffee cups they're holding.)


Friday, Georgia took Denny, Brian and I to lunch at this amazing little italian restaurant called Nino's. It was one of the best meals I have had in a long time and EVERYTHING was good - because of course we all tried everything everyone else got! The 4 of us go out to eat a lot and love to share food!

Then, saturday, between shows all of the local crew hosted a texas BBQ for the company of the show. They cooked homemade brisket and sausages and chicken and burgers and steaks and everyone contributed with homemade potato salad and pasta salad and the most amazing creamed corn I have ever tasted. And the company brought the chips and plates and drinks since we didn't have kitchens at our hotel.

All in all Houston was a LOT of fun and full of good food!
